That Other Gravel Ride

Every Wednesday at Full Cycle Bike Shop. Meet @ 5:20pm, rollout at 5:30pm

Route: Spicy, Mild TBD

We are hosting weekday group rides open to everyone! There is️ only one rule...DON’T KILL THE VIBE! If you are looking to be “champion of the group ride” we will ask that you stay home. If you are looking to have fun, be social and sweat, then hop on and hit the dirt.

RDC ride members get happy hour pricing post ride + 10% off your Full Cycle purchase by mentioning RDC at checkout.

All riders should ensure their equipment is in good working order, have a spare tube and bike pump in case of flat, and know how to get back to Full Cycle. “Spicy” group expectations are that you always practice excellent group etiquette by calling things out, are comfortable riding in large groups, know the route, can average 17+mph in the group, and are ok with being dropped. “Mild” group expectations are that riders improve their group etiquette, practice riding safely, are comfortable riding in medium sized groups, and can average 14-16mph.

That Other Gravel Ride - Ride Policy

The TOGR ride doesn’t have too many rules. We look forward to this part in our season, where we all get together and enjoy the beautiful Boulder evenings and post ride hangs. For the most part we ride rain or shine…because we just love to ride. With that being said, weather is a bit unpredictable when we kick things off, and as we approach Summer, so we thought it best to lay some ground rules.
Rules:

  1. Be adaptive…we change routes, we combine groups and we sometimes go a bit longer than expected. We do this for the safety and morale of the group. All of these decisions are expressed at the beginning of the ride so you have the choice to bail if desired.

  2. We will not ride if the weather is under 40 degrees fahrenheit. Once again, this ride is about community and pure enjoyment. This is not meant to be a training ride.

  3. We do not ride if there is lightning. We won’t judge or tell if you decide to carry on your Wednesday night ride, but your ride is considered unofficial and not led by a member of RDC.

  4. We will make all final decisions by 5pm the night of the ride. These updates will be shared on instagram and our website. If you do not see a cancellation, expect there to be an RDC leader at Full Cycle to lead you. If weather changes between 5:00-5:30pm, a RDC member will still show up to make the call onsite.

Crusher in Tushar Training Series: Ride One
Mar

Crusher in Tushar Training Series: Ride One

When: Sunday March 24th

Where: Full Cycle Boulder

When: 9:30 am

What: This four-part series is designed to prepare you for the Tushar Mountains and a hard day in the saddle. RDC will be offering nutrition tips, pacing strategies, bike skills, and more to ensure you are set to tackle Lifetimes Crusher in Tushar. If you’re looking to enhance your skills but don’t have an interest in racing, this series offers value to all.

Ride One: Intro to Sustainable Climbing

We start this series by covering a quarter of the elevation gain you will encounter at Crusher in Tushar, but don’t let the numbers get into your head here, this ride offers multiple bail-out points for those who want to start a bit lighter. We will warm up with a spin through the Boulder Reservoir roads at a mild pace where ride leader and RDC Founder, Rebecca Brough will coach you through tips on effort output, cadence, and fueling.

From there we will tackle our first gravel climb up Bow Mountain, which is an average grade of 5.4% and will last around 15-20 mins at 4-5mph. The hard work on this climb is done in the first and last pitch. Then we will descend Linden Road and cut over to 4th Street for a moment of recovery before climbing again.

Next, we will hit Sunshine Canyon which is a gradual yet steep paved climb, where we will focus predominantly on nutrition while riding. The climb (2.8 miles long) will take us to Poorman, a gravel descent where we will focus on handling and recovering.

For those looking to continue to the final climb, we will ride up Four Mile Canyon to Wall Street for a sustainable 3-4% 5-mile climb and then descend back into boulder along the creek path.

Please remember to bring (2) bottles, ride nutrition and wear a heart rate monitor if you have one. There will be a water stop at the base of the Sunshine Climb.

Route: The full route is for intermediate riders. Beginner riders will finish after descending Poorman which removes about 15 miles total and 1,500ft of climbing.

IWD Collective Ride

When: Saturday March 9th | 10:30 am

Where: Full Cycle Boulder

RSVP link: Thanks for giving us a heads up!

Route info: ROAD (advanced, intermediate, beginner) GRAVEL (advanced, intermediate, beginner)

RDC will have both road and gravel options, with two pace options. We will have complimentary pre-ride nutrition from Skratch and a free post-ride beer from our sponsor Fat Tire. This is a Women, Trans, Femme, and Non Binary ride. Guys, you’re welcome to volunteer with setup and coordination, but you are not able to participate on the ride.

Each pace group is planning on around 2 hours. If you have questions or want to participate but are not sure if you can do the full ride please email us! We want to create an inclusive environment for all WTFNB community members and are happy to modify to your needs. The advanced group will roll first with intermediate and beginner groups following a minute behind.

Minimum recommended donation is $3.

New for 2024: All pace groups per discipline will start together to allow for a natural split. This helps riders see where they slot in naturally. You’d be surprised how many intermediate riders can “sit in” on the advanced group. It also allows riders to get a feel for how their legs are in real-time and decide what’s best for them on the day. Our beginner ride will be an audible decision on the morning of each ride if fewer than 5 riders RSVP. If this happens, the beginner group will roll out with all groups and the RDC sweep will be responsible for beginner members.

In general, our "Advanced" rides typically come with the expectation that participants are comfortable riding in a pack with others, practice good group etiquette and know the route (in case they can't hang on to the pace for the entire ride).  "Advanced" rides are generally appropriate for experienced riders who are looking for a workout, are ok being dropped, and can average 18-20mph+ in a road group and 15-17mph+ in a gravel group.

If you're not comfortable riding in a large pack or are not sure what pace\effort is appropriate, the "Intermediate" option may be a good starting option. Our "Intermediate" rides are very inclusive and are almost always no-drop or will include a sweep. This group is intended to allow almost everyone to participate and have help (if desired) along the way. This is a great option for those who want to grow, have lots of questions, are looking to focus on gaining confidence, and can average 15-17mph in a road group and 13-15mph in a gravel group.

Our beginner ride is paced for those who are new to group riding or riding in general. This ride is 100% no-drop and is a great place to learn the basics of group riding and skills needed to gain strength and confidence. No prior experience is needed on this ride. All bikes are welcome but we if you bring a TT bike to any of our rides you are not allowed to ride in the aero position out of safety for the other riders.

One ride is not better than the other.  We simply have different expectations depending on what group a rider wants to join. Each group offers different levels of input and growth depending on what a rider is looking for. Stay tuned to our website, and your inbox, for regular updates, tips and insight. Subscribe to our mailing list below!

IWD SERIES: ASPIRATIONS AND OBSTACLES W/ SPECIAL GUESTS

About:Join RDC and our pro panel for a discussion on aspirations and obstacles in the world of women’s cycling.

It’s no surprise that the community of RDC falls into the bucket of “go big or go home,” our organizations name after all is is Ride or Die Collective. Let’s talk about what going big is to each of us and how sometimes going big means over the handlebars, drive side down and bibs ripped to shreds. It also means getting back up.

This event is part of our International Women’s Day series aimed to get you prepared and stoked for the season ahead of rides and hangs. This year we’ve teamed up with Lifetime to get more of you on start lines of two kind of scary, somewhat unapproachable, but epically awesome events: Crusher in Tushar and The Rad Dirt Fest. All we ask is that you think about, trust us a little and do the work. We’ve got you covered…even with entries!

Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Location: Skratch Labs Cafe, Boulder CO

Show up and learn about what it takes to stand on the top step, do something you never thought possible and overcome obstacles from our pro panel including Kate Cross, Leah Van der Linden, Heather Fischer, Daphne Kargagianis and Andrea Dvorak

That Other Gravel Ride

Every Wednesday at Full Cycle Bike Shop. Meet @ 5:20pm, rollout at 5:30pm

Routes: Chapman

We are hosting weekday group rides open to everyone! There is️ only one rule...DON’T KILL THE VIBE! If you are looking to be “champion of the group ride” we will ask that you stay home. If you are looking to have fun, be social and sweat, then hop on and hit the dirt.

RDC ride members get happy hour pricing post ride! If you’re interested in RDC merchandise please let us know and we can bring it to the ride for purchase.

September Collective Ride

When: Saturday September 9th | 8:30 am

Where: Full Cycle Boulder

RSVP link: Thanks for giving us a heads up!

Route info: Gravel Advanced, Gravel Intermediate, Gravel Beginner, Road Advanced, Road Intermediate, Road Beginner

RDC will have both road and gravel options, with three pace options. We will have free pre-ride nutrition, free beer and a free post-ride raffle! This is a Women, Trans, Femme, and Non Binary ride. Guys, you’re welcome to volunteer with setup and coordination, but you are not able to participate on the ride.

Each pace group is planning on around 2-3 hours.

In general our "Advanced" rides typically come with the expectation that participants are comfortable riding in a pack with others, practice good group etiquette, and that they know the route (in case they can't hang on to the pace for the entire ride).  "Advanced" rides are generally appropriate for experienced riders that are looking for a workout, are ok being dropped, and can average 18-20mph+ in a road group and 15-17mph+ in a gravel group.

If you're not comfortable riding in a large pack, or are not sure what pace\effort is appropriate, the "Intermediate" option may a good starting option. Our "Intermediate" rides are very inclusive, and are almost always no-drop or will include a sweep. This group is intended to allow almost everyone to participate and have help (if desired) along the way. This is a great option for those that want to grow, have lots of questions, are looking to focus on gaining confidence, and can average 15-17mph in a road group and 13-15mph in a gravel group.

Every Wednesday at Full Cycle Bike Shop. Meet @ 5:20pm, rollout at 5:30pm

Route: August 16

This week’s theme is community and safety. We will all be doing the same route with natural pace split ups. There will be no surging, no sprints, no half-wheeling. The pace will be conversational. We will all roll back to Full Cycle together to grab a drink and some snacks and celebrate community.

August Collective Ride: Gravel Extravaganza

When: Saturday August 5th | 8:30 AM

Where: Full Cycle Boulder

RSVP link: Thanks for giving us a heads up!

Route info: Gravel Advanced, Gravel Intermediate, Gravel Beginner

RDC will only have gravel options this time around to support our efforts in getting more women on the start line at Littleton Crit.

Pre-Ride Check List:

  • Bring (2) water bottles (recommend adding electrolytes or filling up with our complimentary Skratch before ride)

  • Have a flat kit ( depends on the rider but some sort of hand pump or CO2, tire plugs for gravel riders and a spare tube will help)

  • Bring snacks! (fueling your ride is so important and can change your entire experience on the bike is the best way)

  • Download the route on either a bike computer or your phone. This is crucial for Advanced riders as this ride is a drop ride.

There will be three pace options.

In general our "Advanced" rides typically come with the expectation that participants are comfortable riding in a pack with others, practice good group etiquette, and that they know the route (in case they can't hang on to the pace for the entire ride).

This month our advanced riders will complete a few punchy and technical climbs up Joder and Rowena to Gold Hill for a fueling stop. If technical is a bit intimidating, but you want to try, we encourage you to do so. Your ride leader will guide you and share tips to ensure comfort on your ride.

If you're not comfortable riding in a large pack, or are not sure what pace\effort is appropriate, the "Intermediate" option may a good starting option. Our "Intermediate" rides are very inclusive, and are almost always no-drop or will include a sweep.

If you are riding gravel intermedaite this month, there will be a water station at the base of your first climb. We suggest you hyradate a little extra before the ride (a bottle of Skratch before you leave the house). Then take in as much hydration during the rollout so you can top off your bottles before you hit the more challenging sections. Think about bringing larger bottles if you know you need ample hydration.

Our beginner ride is paced for those who are new to group riding or riding in general. This ride is 100% no-drop and is a great place to learn the basics of group riding and skills needed to gain strength and confidence. No prior experience is needed on this ride.

Our beginner route will take you through Boulder Roubaix roads to Hygiene. The ride, like last months, will be a rolling clinic. As a reminder a rolling clinic allows us to continue on route and stop occasionally to review a skill or practice a more technical component of riding. It’s a great way to put what you learn into practice.

One ride is not better than the other.  We simply have different expectations depending on what group a rider wants to join. Each group offers different levels of input and growth depending on what a rider is looking for. Stay tuned to our website, and your inbox, for regular updates, tips and insight. Subscribe to our mailing list below!
